PT-141

PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic peptide investigated in research for its effects on neuroendocrine signalling and behavioural responses. It functions as an agonist of melanocortin receptors, primarily the melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R), with additional activity at MC1R and MC3R (receptors involved in central nervous system pathways regulating arousal, motivation, and physiological responses). In laboratory studies, it is characterised by its ability to cross the blood–brain barrier and activate melanocortin pathways, distinguishing it from peripheral-acting compounds. Owing to this central receptor activity, PT-141 is studied as a model compound for exploring mechanisms related to neuropeptide signalling, behavioural modulation, and hypothalamic regulation.
