MOTS-C

MOTS-c (mitochondrial open-reading-frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a mitochondria-derived peptide composed of 16 amino acids, investigated in research for its role in cellular energy regulation. It is expressed in various tissues and in plasma, and is studied for its potential cell-signalling and hormone-like functions. In laboratory settings, MOTS-c is examined for its interaction with the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway (a key regulator of cellular energy balance) and for its possible influence on metabolic adaptation and energy use in cells.
